Part 2 of 4: Botox® Capabilities. Expectations vs Reality

Welcome back to Part 2 of our 4-part Botox® Blog-Series.

In this installment, we’re diving deeper into the capabilities of Botox®, managing expectations, and understanding its strengths and limitations.

Now, let’s dive into Part 2.

Misconception #1: The More Botox® I Have Injected Into My Forehead, the More Lift I Will Get

THE REALITY

It’s actually the opposite!

Botox® works by relaxing muscles, and the effect depends on how each muscle contributes to your facial expressions.

The muscle beneath the horizontal forehead lines is an elevator muscle - its job is to lift. When Botox® is injected into this area, it reduces the muscle’s ability to lift, especially when larger doses are used.

At Timeless Aesthetics, we carefully balance softening horizontal lines with maintaining the natural position of the brows and upper eyelid skin. This requires tailoring the dose to match what your muscles can handle while avoiding heaviness or drooping.

For clients with hooded eye skin, we recommend either avoiding Botox® in this area or using very small doses placed strategically in the upper section of the forehead to prevent unwanted effects.

Misconception #2: Botox® Is Suitable Around the Eye Area for Everyone

THE REALITY

Botox® works best around the eyes when the skin is tight and supple.

If the skin has become lax, it’s essential to address the skin’s quality first. Treatments like polynucleotides, microneedling, or prescriptive topical products can help maintain elasticity and tightness.

Using Botox® on lax skin can lead to unintended effects, such as making the skin appear baggier. Additionally, if eye bags are present, Botox® can worsen their appearance by affecting lymphatic drainage in the area.

At Timeless Aesthetics, we assess every client’s skin quality and structure during consultations, ensuring that Botox® is used in a way that enhances, rather than detracts, from your natural beauty.

Misconception #3: Botox® to the Frown Will Cause Me to Look Heavy

THE REALITY

The opposite is true!

The muscles in the frown complex are depressor muscles, meaning they pull down.

When Botox® is used to relax these muscles, it creates a natural lifting effect, subtly opening the brows and softening the lines between them.

At Timeless, we love seeing the refreshed and open appearance this treatment provides for our clients.

Misconception #4: It’s Okay to Just Treat My Horizontal Lines Without Treating the Frown

THE REALITY

Botox® works by relaxing muscles, and for every action, there’s a reaction.

Treating the horizontal lines on the forehead without addressing the frown can cause an imbalance, leading to heaviness or even a droopy brow.

It’s possible to treat the frown area without treating the horizontal lines, but it’s never advisable to do the reverse.

At Timeless Aesthetics, we prioritise balance and harmony, ensuring treatments complement your facial anatomy and deliver the best aesthetic results.

Misconception #5: I Must Always Have a ‘Top-Up’ at 2 Weeks

THE REALITY

The term "top-up" can be misleading.

At Timeless Aesthetics, we refer to this as a review appointment.

A review is an opportunity for your practitioner to assess the results of your treatment and, if necessary, make small adjustments.

However, tweaks are ‘only’ made based on professional judgment, and not every client will require further adjustments after the initial treatment.

Our goal is to deliver a natural, refined result without the need for unnecessary interventions.

Final Thoughts on Part 2

Botox® treatments require expertise, precision, and a personalised approach to achieve the best results.

At Timeless Aesthetics, we pride ourselves on tailoring every treatment to your unique anatomy and needs, ensuring you leave looking refreshed and confident.
